The Mental Health Effects of Quitting Smoking

Addictions Are Powerful

As a mental health care provider, we see addictions to narcotics, prescription drugs and alcohol every day. We also are now seeing a deluge of behavioral addictions like internet addiction, pornography addiction, sex addiction, technology addiction and others. Both the chemical and the behavioral can rob its “owner” of their health, relationships, job opportunities, and their happiness.

But there is one legal product that is perhaps the most impactful of them all – cigarettes. More people are addicted to cigarettes than any other drug. Even after years of anti-smoking campaigns, about 4 in 10 adults still smoke in the U.S. For 18-24 year olds, the number is higher. At our treatment facility The Center • A Place of HOPE in Edmonds, Washington, I see daily the impact nicotine addiction has on our clients’ appearance, their finances, their physical health and their mental health.

Over the years, we have honed our treatment techniques to have outstanding results for those suffering from depression, eating disorders, anxiety and most all other afflictions. But the one addiction that has always proven to be one of the, if not the, most challenging is the addiction to smoking.

For us to truly be a whole-person, complete treatment solution for our clients, we needed to find the best way for us to also treat nicotine addiction. After years of searching for the best programs and products, we are excited to now partner with NicoBloc and use their breakthrough product exclusively with our patients. The results couldn’t be more promising.

Blocking up to 99% of tar and nicotine in the cigarette, NicoBloc is a liquid that the smoker applies via a drop to the filter end of the cigarette. The product enables the smoker to wean themselves off of their addiction, avoiding the more difficult to sustain “cold turkey” method.

NicoBloc: The Product and the Plan

NicoBloc provides not only the product, but also the plan to follow to most effectively wean oneself, over time, completely off of cigarettes. We know that smokers don’t quit because of habit and addiction, and because they need a behavioral modification.

The simple brilliance of NicoBloc is that is provides all three. The smoker gently changes their behaviors and habits to smoke less and less, all while lower amounts of addictive nicotine are entering the body – a one-two punch to help quit smoking. And with the chart to follow, there is no guess work for the smoker. At the end of the program, we are seeing tangible results that NicoBloc proves to be the most effective tool to help smokers quit smoking we have ever used. The result is better health – financial health, physical health, and mental health. And that is something we can all get excited about!
